Date & Time: Saturday, May 16th, 2011, with a mass start at 6:00 a.m. sharp. Check-in is from 5:00–5:45 a.m., with brief announcements at about 5:50 a.m. This brevet will be held rain or shine.

Introduction: This new route is a combination of some of my favorite cycling areas in central Utah including the location for the Sanpete Classic Bicycle Race and Fun Ride. It travels on rural highways and quiet farm roads. The route starts in the small community of Santaquin, which is about 15 miles south of Provo. It then goes through Goshen and then immediately makes the 2,000-foot climb up to Eureka. The route then drops down into the west desert of Utah as it heads towards Little Sahara Sand Dunes, before it turns east, traveling through Nephi. It then makes another climb up Salt Creek Canyon to the north end of Sanpete County, where it goes through the towns of Fountain Green, Wales, Chester and Spring City (enjoy the free and fresh “on tap” spring water at this checkpoint). From Spring City the route proceeds down highway 89 to Gunnison, the southern most point of the ride. The route is designed to hopefully take advantage of the typical afternoon SW winds, as the last long leg proceeds north from Gunnison back to Santaquin.
